“The Oakey’s" 


A short SHORT story competition!

The communities residents were invited to write a short story, showing us the impact of the drought on them as individuals, or their family or the extended community, allowing us to walk in their shoes for just a moment. 


Everyone experiences trauma in different ways, and the words of the youngest entrants were as powerful and resonated with readers as much as the words shared by the older more experienced entrants. 


Stories, both fiction and non-fiction, were no more than 440 words, and entrants were encouraged to rally their own family and friends to like, share and comment on their entries on Facebook.
