“The Oakey’s" 

A short SHORT story competition!

Write a short story, showing us the impact of the drought on you, your family or your community, 

allow us to walk in your shoes for just a moment. 

 

 

Stories can be fiction or non-fiction, and no more than 440 words.

Great prizes for primary school students, high school students and an open category! 

 

Submit your story by sending it to email:  em@boogiebooks.com.au  and it will be shared on Facebook

 

 The Oakey community will be invited to vote.  The highest number of 'Likes' in each category will be the winner.

​The competition is open to all residents of the Oakey District (postcode 4401) and is proudly supported by the Oakey Wellness Committee, with funding from QLD Health’s TRAIC program.

Terms and Conditions (Please read carefully) 
  1. Entry to the competition is FREE.

  2. Entrants are asked to add in the email submission their NAME / ADDRESS / CATEGORY / MOBILE OR CONTACT NUMBER​​

  3. All story entries must be submitted as an attachment to an email em@boogiebooks.com.au / subject: Project 4401 Competition, in Microsoft Word format Calibri font 12pt.Please, there is no need for borders or embellishments! 

  4. The competition closes at midnight 19 February 2020.

  5. The competition is ONLY open to residents of the Oakey community (postcode 4401) and yes, category winners will be asked for identification confirming residency of the Oakey District.

  6. If category winners are unable to produce evidence of residency, the entry with the next highest number of 'likes' on Facebook will be the winner.

  7. The judging will be done by the broader social media community. Entrants are very welcome to share the link to their published story and invite their friends to like their story.

  8. Entries are to be no longer than 440 WORDS and can be fiction or non-fiction.

  9. The story must conform to a ‘G’ rating. Any entries deemed as using excessive language, being offensive or rude will simply not be posted, therefore will not be valid for judging.

  10. Category: (a) Primary School Student (b) Secondary School Student (c) Open

  11. TOTAL PRIZE POOL $800

  12. Prizes: (a) Primary School Student 1st = $50, 2nd = $25, 3rd = $10, $5 for 3 x Highly Commended - total $100

  13. Prizes: (b) Secondary School Student 1st = $100, 2nd = $50, 3rd = $25, $5 for 5 x Highly Commended - total $200

  14. Prizes: (c) Open Fiction $250, Open Non-Fiction $250 - total $500

  15. All entries will receive a certificate acknowledging their contribution. 

  16.  Judging will take place within two (2) days of the competition closing.

  17.  Project 4401 / organiser Emma Mactaggart takes no responsibility for lost or misdirected entries.

  18. The work must solely and wholly be that of the entrant.

  19.  There is no limit to the number of entries per person.

  20. ​The winners will be notified by social media / phone and / or email on or before two days of the competition closing. Presentation of their prize money will be in September at the Project 4401 Final Event (date to be advised)

  21. The promoter is Boogie Books ABN 77 322 342 176  under the Oakey Wellness Committee

  22. Project 4401 reserves the right to use winning entries for promotional activities in all relevant print and online media at the full discretion of Project 4401
